Auckland New Zealand – Two young women in Auckland have been arrested for allegedly stealing groceries valued at a staggering $40,000 in just two months.
The women, aged 22 and 26, are facing a total of 29 theft-related charges. They are accused of targeting Auckland’s supermarkets, stealing a wide range of products, including food, drinks, and personal care items.
The police apprehended the duo after observing a vehicle with a damaged rear window. The women were identified as suspects in multiple shoplifting incidents and were taken into custody without any resistance.

Senior Sergeant Guy Baldwin, of the Auckland City Police, said the arrests were the result of a collaborative effort between frontline personnel and investigators. He said the police were committed to holding these alleged high-volume offenders accountable and preventing further victimization.
Matt Tierney, the manager of the National Retail Investigation Support Unit (NRISU), said NRISU investigators are diligently compiling reports of various incidents to facilitate the police in locating and apprehending the offenders. He said NRISU has filed charges against 289 offenders, encompassing a total of 1,583 charges since its inception in November 2021.
The police are urging retailers and members of the public to report any suspicious activity to them immediately.
