If you are a cricket fan, you might be wondering what are the upcoming ICC events from 2023 to 2031. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the expansion of its global events for both men’s and women’s cricket, as well as the reintroduction of the Champions Trophy. Here is a brief overview of what to expect in the next decade of cricket.
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will become a 14-team, 54-match event in 2027 and 2031, with two groups of seven teams each. The top three teams from each group will progress to a Super Six stage, followed by semi-finals and final. This is the same format that was used in the 2003 edition of the tournament.
The Men’s T20 World Cup will be expanded to a 20-team, 55-match event in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030, with four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to a Super Eights stage, followed by semi-finals and final.
The Men’s Champions Trophy will be revived as an eight-team, 15-match event in 2025 and 2029, with two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and final.
The World Test Championship Finals will be hosted in 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031, with two teams competing for the ultimate prize in Test cricket.
The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will also see an expansion from eight to ten teams in 2029, with a total of 48 matches. The format will remain unchanged from the previous editions.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will also grow from ten to twelve teams in 2026, with a total of 33 matches. The format will also remain unchanged from the previous editions.
The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup will continue to feature sixteen teams for both men’s and women’s events. However, there will be a new addition of a T20 Champions Trophy for six teams in both categories in alternate years.
ICC Host Countries for Next Global Events
The ICC has also confirmed the host countries for all its men’s events till 2031. Some notable hosts include USA and Namibia who will host their first ever ICC events. Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, India, New Zealand,Pakistan,Scotland,South Africa,Sri Lanka,West Indies and Zimbabwe will also host various events over the next decade.
