Sohail Ahmed, a renowned Pakistani comedian and stage as well as TV actor, was born on May 1, 1963, in Gujranwala, Pakistan. He is famously known by his stage name, Azizi, and has gained prominence for his comedy performances in both stage plays and TV dramas centered in Lahore.
Notably, he is a regular part of the popular Dunya TV show called “Hasb-e-Haal,” which was initiated by Aftab Iqbal on Dunya News. The character of Azizi was developed by Aftab Iqbal for this show.
Sohail’s passion for the performing arts dates back to his childhood when he saw his grandfather on a literary program on TV. His fascination only grew stronger when he had his first cinematic experience during his second year, watching the film “Takht Ya Takht,” which awakened the actor within him.
During those early days, He lived near a prominent writer and director named Awanji. Intrigued by the world of drama, Sohail secretly attended the rehearsals of Awanji’s play “Dolat Kay Pujari,” where he landed a role as a rogue hotel employee responsible for money recovery from customers. The drama’s director, Shahid Ijaz, helmed this production, and the renowned artist Mastana was also part of the drama team.
As Sohail’s acquaintanceship with Mastana grew into friendship, he was introduced to Fakhri Ahmed in Lahore, which marked the beginning of his journey in the world of drama. Under the mentorship of ‘Taya Ji,’ he performed in his first drama titled ‘Jamala Te Kamala.’
He has consistently showcased brilliant performances in numerous stage and TV dramas. He even had the opportunity to showcase his talent on the radio.
In the realm of silver screen art, Sohail took on the lead role in Pakistan’s first silver screen art movie titled “Nawein Nakoor.” Additionally, director Usman Pirzada chose him for the commercial film “Gori Diyan Jhanjharan.”
He also had the honor of portraying the role of Allama Iqbal in the documentary “Poetry of Iqbal,” produced by the London School of Arts. Moreover, he contributed as a feature writer for the daily Jang and served as the managing editor of the daily ‘Tehelka’ for a year and a half.

The show’s concept was initiated by Aftab Iqbal, and it humorously discusses economic and social issues.
