Nadeem Anjum succeeded Faiz Hameed as DG ISI on November 20, 2021. He is a native of Gujjar Khan, Punjab, and was commissioned into the Pakistan Army in September 1988. He has served at various important positions, including in the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA), Balochistan, and along the Line of Control (LoC).
Nadeem Anjum is known for his low-key style and has avoided publicity since taking over as DG ISI. He is also the first ISI chief to have addressed a press conference.
The extension of Anjum’s tenure as DG ISI is significant as it comes at a time when Pakistan is facing a number of internal and external security challenges. These include the ongoing war in Afghanistan, the threat of terrorism from both within and outside the country, and the continued tensions with India.
Anjum’s experience and expertise in intelligence and security matters will be essential in helping Pakistan navigate these challenges in the coming year.
