Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, Vedant Patel, recently addressed the issue of consular access for fashion designer Khadija Shah, who holds dual US-Pakistani citizenship.

Patel acknowledged that the US continues to closely monitor Khadija Shah’s case, maintaining regular engagement with the Government of Pakistan. Consistent with their practice, the United States urges foreign governments to facilitate consular access and notification procedures when American citizens are detained abroad. Given Shah’s dual nationality, the US seeks direct engagement to ensure her rights and well-being are protected throughout the legal process.
Dismissing Allegations of US Involvement in Pakistani Politics
Responding to inquiries regarding allegations of former army chief General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa manipulating the US to oust the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson, Vedant Patel dismissed these claims as categorically false.
