Dr. Hanan Balkhi began her career as a medical doctor in Saudi Arabia, where she worked in a variety of clinical and public health settings. She later went on to earn a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of London.
After completing her PhD, Dr. Balkhi worked as a public health consultant for a number of international organizations, including the World Bank and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). She also served as the Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2010.
Dr. Hanan Balkhi was appointed Regional Director for the Middle East at the WHO. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the WHO’s work in the region, which includes supporting countries to improve their health systems, prevent and control diseases, and promote health and well-being.
