Tom Walker is the star of Radio 4’s new political comedy, “Call Jonathan Pie.” He is also known for his satirical character Jonathan Pie, a perpetually angry news reporter who comments on British and world politics.
Tom Walker’s BBC Sounds podcast has now transitioned to Radio 4 as a 10-part series. The episodes cover topics like the NHS and Brexit.
Tom’s character, Jonathan Pie, has also been critical of Vladimir Putin. He produced videos for The New York Times, including one titled “How Putin Weaponized London’s Greed,” where the character criticized Putin’s use of illicit money to fund an oligarchy of billionaires to maintain his regime.

Interestingly, Tom first gained recognition in 2015 when he appeared on Russia Today. During an interview with the channel, he was less critical of Putin and RT. However, he left RT after six months, citing the difficulty of building his personal “brand” while being associated with the Russian propaganda channel.
Tom emphasizes that his own political views differ from those expressed by his fictional character, Jonathan Pie. While Pie is portrayed as a “proper old-school socialist,” Tom describes himself as a liberal who believes in the importance of freedom of speech as a fundamental right.
