Wellington, New Zealand – The police in Wellington, New Zealand, are preparing to oversee protests in the city and are urging bystanders to film any instances of law-breaking during these demonstrations and submit the footage.
The protests are expected to involve protesters from various organizations, including the Freedom Rights Coalition, the Convoy Coalition, and the Stop Co-Governance, with counter-protests organized by the Pōneke Anti-Fascist Coalition.
To prepare for the expected protests, streets around Wellington’s Parliamentary precinct were closed, and bus routes were diverted. Protesters plan to gather at Civic Square at 10 a.m. on Thursday and then march on Parliament.
Police Acting Superintendent Wade Jennings stated that officers from across the country, including those specially trained in public order policing, were being deployed to Wellington. They would be highly visible throughout the city during the protests.
“We are asking people to be patient and understanding as there may be some disruptions to traffic and public transport,” Jennings said. “We also urge people to avoid any areas where protests are taking place and to report any suspicious activity to the police.”
Jennings also urged bystanders to film any instances of law-breaking during the protests and submit the footage to the police.
